I don't think that a dense breast parenchyma means that you have cancer. The suspicious mass is different and only the biopsy can tell you whether it's benign or not. All women who fall into the latter two categories (heterogeneously dense and extremely dense) will be informed that they have dense breasts under the law. Therefore, approximately 50% of women will fall into these two categories and be told that they have dense breasts. Knowing whether you have dense breasts is important because women with dense breasts have a higher risk of developing breast cancer, and often need supplemental screenings to a mammogram.
